Angela Merkel Says Europeans Can No Longer Depend On Others

After President Trump's first trip abroad, another world leader doesn't seem too confident in the U.S.'s role in global political affairs.

"The times in which we can count on others for support are somewhat over,” Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel said in a speech on Sunday morning. "We Europeans must take our destiny in our own hands."

She went on to say that Europeans must continue to work with their "friendships" in the U.S. and U.K., and even with countries like Russia, but that ultimately, "we have to fight for our futures and our fates ourselves, as Europeans."

President Trump declined to endorse the Paris Accord on his last day of his nine day trip abroad. The President tweeted that he will announce his decision to support the Paris Accord next week. This came after days of serious appeals by six other world leaders from the G7 summit and the Pope, according to a report by The New York Times.

The Paris Accord is an international doctrine created in 2015 and is an agreement between nations to take drastic efforts towards preventing climate change, and providing support to regions that are already suffering from it's effects.

The Chancellor's speaking event was held in a Bavarian beer tent, according to The Independent, where Angela Merkel is campaigning for her fourth term as Chancellor. Directly after the event, Merkel was photographed toasting a beer and smiling.
