JME Responded After A Right-Wing Newspaper Attempted To Smear His Name
The Daily Mail resurfaced the MC’s 2012 tweets after he met with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
On May 14 grime MC sat down with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. They talked about the reasons many British young people don't vote and what can be done to address that issue. Clips from the meeting were shared on Corbyn's Snapchat and JME later tweeted instructions to his followers about registering to vote ahead of the U.K. general election in June.
Two days later, May 16, right-wing newspaper the Daily Mail ran a piece in which tweets from JME's account dating back to 2010 were dragged up in an attempt to tarnish both his name, and Corbyn by association. JME's historic tweets included "bomb the White House" and "fuck the Queen."
The piece also cited misogynistic messages suggesting rape had been "renamed" to ''surprise sex" and an offensive RT about Jewish people being tight with money. A spokesman for Corbyn told the Mail that the Labour leader condemns racism, anti-Semitism, and misogyny.
Since the piece about JME was published, the MC has defended himself on Twitter. He posted a screenshot of the full timeline from which his 2012 comments about the White House and the Queen were taken. They were part of a wider conversation about Twitter and examples of the things someone with freedom of speech can theoretically say. He also credited the rape joke to British comedian Jimmy Carr but claimed he did not see what was offensive about the Jewish joke.

Thanks everyone for having my back, but stop now don't worry, I'm not a celebrity, I haven't got a pop career to smear, or a boss to sack me

You know we don't care about the media, that's the whole reason why some of the tweets were even tweeted. For this exact moment. pic.twitter.com/GllHvldne7

I haven't got like a podium with 8 mics with different coloured foam pop stoppers and cameras flashing. But in case anybody cares…

The print screened tweets earlier speak for themselves.

The surprise sex rapey tweet was a Jimmy Carr punchline quote.

The retweet, was a series of "sweating more than" hashtags, which played on Jewish being rich. I still don't get the anti semite part??? pic.twitter.com/pEGtzWQyKT

I'm not a celebrity, or an antisemite, or a rapper.

I know you already know, but just in case.
Back to the task at hand.
And please stop sending hate to the writer or paper themselves.

They have a job to do, don't hate them.
