“Look at my neck, bling blaow!” will be stuck in your head after you listen to this new slapper of a song from Vallejo, California’s own Nef The Pharaoh. Premiering today on The FADER, “Bling Blaow!” is a celebratory homage to the ice on his neck, and the bragging rights that come with it. Featuring Bay Area fam Slimmy B of SOB x RBE, the song was first performed at The FADER FORT in March.
"The title is the sound of diamonds shining in the dark,” Nef shared with The FADER over email. “If they’re not real they’re not going to shine in low light. Real diamonds shine in any type of light. It also complements the nickname that was given to me, which is another onomatopoeia but for chains hitting each other: Chang Chang.”
“For artists who from the hood, jewelry is our token validation for making it. First thing you do when you get a check is get a grill or a chain. It takes pressure to make a diamond, and purchasing a diamond is physical proof that you can survive under pressure."
Nef The Pharaoh’s The Chang Project is out this Friday, April 28.
