"I remember when I started doing music a few years ago, my main objective was to showcase African music in a different light," wrote Montreal musician Pierre Kwenders about the song "Woods Of Solitude" in an email to The FADER. It's an upbeat clash of distorted and jaunty guitars, drums that slap, and a bass wallowing in subby mud while Kwenders spits heavenly poetry. The music video, premiering today on The FADER, was directed by Epher Heilland and features a lot of wandering in scenic Seattle, with the song's lyrics sported as interstitial cards.

"I felt the need to create a sound that would appeal to both my African and western cultures," Kwenders added. "Working with Tendai Maraire [his collaborator on "Woods Of Solitude"] made it all possible. He had the same vision. He also wanted to create more of a Pan African sound that really speaks to both sides of the ocean: our Black American side and our African side. This song is a journey of self-discovery and introspection."
