U.K. Producer Forever Finds Serenity In The Unfamiliar On “Gweilo”
The track is off his latest EP Hymn due out on April 28.
For the last two years, producer Forever has been developing his sound as part of the Leicester-based label and collective, Grade 10. By mixing ethereal synths layered over much heavier underlying tones, he's created a sound that feels welcoming and somehow limitless. This experimentation is showcased on “Gweilo.” Taken from his second EP Hymn due out later this month on Coyote Records, “Gweilo” finds Forever fusing chimes and synths with a surreal, cinematic landscape.
"’Gweilo’ came about on a plane journey home after spending some time in Hong Kong a couple of years ago,” Forever explained over an email to The FADER. “I'd been making these field recordings in loads of the places i'd been visiting and loads of the kinda tourist spots and temples were playing this weird half-electronic, half-traditional Chinese music in the background that made the whole experience feel a bit surreal. Beautiful green hilltop surroundings filled by this soothing, euphoric but not quite futuristic sound that followed you around the place. I guess the basis of the track comes from those sounds and experiencing things somewhere as a foreigner." Listen to “Gweilo” Below.
The Hymn EP is due is out on April 28 through Coyote Records. Pre-order it here.
