Spotify Executive Named Among The Victims Of Stockholm Truck Attack
CEO Daniel Ek has paid tribute to Chris Bevington.
Spotify employee Chris Bevington has been named as one of the four victims of Friday's attack in Sweden. Four people were killed when a lorry was hijacked and driven into a department store in the capital city. Stockholm. British-born Bevington, 41, was a father of two and worked as director of global partnerships and business development for the streaming company.
A statement from Spotify CEO Daniel Ek confirmed the news of Bevington's death: “It is with shock and a heavy heart that I can confirm that Chris Bevington from our Spotify team lost his life in Friday’s senseless attack on Stockholm," he wrote.
“Chris has been a member of our band for over 5 years. He has had a great impact on not just the business but on everyone who had the privilege to know and work with him. There are no words for how missed he will be or for how sad we all are to have lost him like this.
“I am as deeply saddened and upset as all of you that something like this could happen in Sweden. The only light in this deeply tragic moment is the outpouring of love, compassion and solidarity that we have seen from everyone. And that was exactly the kind of person Chris was as well."
A further 15 people were injured in the April 7 attack. BBC News reports 10 are still being treated in hospital, four of them in a serious condition. Two Swedish people and a Belgian also lost their lives to the attack.
A 39-year-old man from Uzbekistan known to police as having extremist sympathies is detained and suspected of being the driver. No terrorist group has claimed to be behind the attack.
