Prime Minister Theresa May has confirmed that she will officially notify the European Union about the U.K.'s intention to leave the union next Wednesday, March 29, BBC News reports. This will come some nine months after the British public voted to leave the E.U. in the referendum of June 2016.
A No 10 spokesman said the U.K.'s Ambassador to the E.U., Sir Tim Barrow, informed the European Council on Monday of the plan for March 29.
Discussions regarding the terms of the departure and future relations between the U.K. and its neighbouring countires can begin once Article 50 is triggered by May. It is expected that the full effects of Brexit should happen in March 2019, if all goes according to plan.
