Kablam’s New Music Video Is Actually A Trailer For A Finnish Thriller
The Swedish artist’s track “Intensia” is wrapped in a supernatural tale about a Wiccan vlogger and an extraterrestrial being.
Last May, Berlin label/collective Janus put out one of my favorite releases of the year: Kablam's digital roar of an EP, Furiosa. The record's intense sonics were recently used by Finnish artists Jaakko Pallasvuo and Anni Puolakka in the soundtrack to their forthcoming supernatural short film, Sacre 2: HEX. From the footage, they carved out an intriguing music video for Furiosa standout "Intensia," that doubles as a trailer for their strange tale. Set to Kablam's unnerving choral flourishes, the music video ends with the protagonist burning a bunch of hundred dollar notes and walking toward the sea.
"I’ve been a fan of Jaakko’s work for a long time, so I was really honored when he asked to use my music in his and Anni’s film," Kablam told The FADER over email. "I love how 'Intensia' gets its own life in the video. Also we traded music for ceramics which I thought was a great deal :-)"
"Our collaboration with Kablam began when we asked to use music from her debut EP, Furiosa, on the soundtrack of our newly completed short film Sacre 2: HEX," Jaakko Pallasvuo and Anni Puolakka told The FADER over email. "The film spirals around a smug Wiccan vlogger turned gas station cashier, and her troubled ties to money, her brother and a seductive extraterrestrial being."
"Kablam's music invokes the main character’s emotional life, both in moments of empowerment and of anxiety," they continued. "The tracks on Furiosa have an urgent and visceral quality that helped us flesh out key scenes. It felt like a natural progression to re-edit material from the film into the shape of a music video for the track 'Intensia.'"
