“Pull Up Wit Ah Stick” played at every home/function I went to went to last weekend, and the whole room went nuts each time. The song, from SahBabii’s self-released, October 2016 SANDAS tape, was “basically a throwaway,” the artist shared in a recent interview with Atlanta’s Hot 107.9, and was added to his his tape after he saw positive reactions to the song on his Instagram. Fast forward to February 2017, and the song — after a few blog posts and heartfelt Twitter endorsements — is picking up steam, with the official video having racked up 1.9 million views in just under two weeks.
19-year-old SahBabii moved to Atlanta’s 9th ward after spending the first half of his life in Chicago, and was inspired to rap by watching his brother make music around the house. He’s continued to record at home instead of the studio, as the entirety of SANDAS, his third project, was recorded in a bedroom with a broken microphone and was finished in one day.
The rapper also recently tweeted about flying to London, and later posted an Instagram with Young Thug, who was in the U.K. for two stops of the Boy Meets World tour with Drake. Several other artists have shown love early on as well.
