Lydia Ainsworth Bathes In The “Afterglow” Of Her Mystical New Video
Her album Darling of the Afterglow is out March 31.
Lydia Ainsworth is back with the video for "Afterglow," the second single from the Toronto-based artist's sophomore album Darling of the Afterglow. The deeply hummed melodies forming the song's foundation are so profane and incense-fogged they could have been sampled from an Orthodox church's choir. But Ainsworth's pop experiments provide exciting alternatives to existing doctrines, and the video for "Afterglow" appropriately relishes the creepy aura and slinky dance moves of the blank face masks of the back up dancers and Ainsworth herself.
"I was living in LA at the time I wrote the song," Ainsworth told The FADER over email. "After spending a day producing the instrumental in Burbank with Jim-E Stack and a French bulldog named Peaches I brought the track home for a walk around Echo Park Lake. By the lake lives a beautiful Art Deco statue named ‘Nuestra Señora Reina de Los Angeles’ (Queen of the Angels). Walking around just after sunset, drenched in a feeling of disconnect and isolation I found comfort in the Queen of the Angels. She gave me the inspiration for the lyrics and melody of the song. It was as if she was singing them to me."
