On Wednesday, Iranian pop singer Googoosh announced on social media that she would be traveling to the U.S. to perform after it was reported that she would be stuck in London after her lawyers warned her that she could be affected by Donald Trump's executive order banning refugees from seven majority-Muslim countries.
On January 31, her lawyer Soroush Shahram told The FADER that Googoosh was “leaning towards going back [to the U.S.]," but was initially not advised to leave London as a greencard holder due to reports of several Iranians being detained at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
The National Iranian American Council (NIAC) said on Tuesday that they are concerned that Donald Trump's executive order, which bars refugees from seven majority-Muslim countries from entering the U.S., will be made into a permanent ban for Iranians. "It could be made a fact of life for Iranians, permanently dividing our community...particularly in the case of Iran, which has no formal diplomatic relations with the United States," the organization stated in a memo.
