Beyonce is totally lip sync'ing this presentation #grammys
— Sean Spicer (@seanspicer) February 11, 2013
Sean Spicer, Donald Trump's new White House Press Secretary, came under fire this weekend for lying about the crowd size at Trump's poorly attended inauguration. As Spicer turned into a global meme for his flimsy statements, internet sleuths proceeded to dig up old tweets from his account that seemed noteworthy or funny, including a series of tweets telling Daft Punk to grow up and take off their helmets. It also came to light that Spicer has spent time across a five year period complaining about the ice cream chain Dippin Dots.
During the 2013 Grammys ceremony, Spicer sent a tweet that said "Beyonce is totally lip sync'ing this presentation." Beyoncé introduced Justin Timberlake alongside Ellen Degeneres and was clearly not lip syncing by any account. (Beyoncé also took home the award for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance for "Love on Top" that year, but did not make a speech or perform during the Grammys telecast.) His tweet is likely a joke about Beyoncé’s lip syncing of the national anthem during Obama's 2013 inauguration that took place in January of that year.
By The Grammys, Beyoncé had already held her infamous pre-Super Bowl press conference where she sang the national anthem live to a room of reporters and muted any controversies about the inauguration. Her Super Bowl performance later that week, featuring a reunion of Destiny's Child, buried the story completely.
At the time of publication, Spicer's Beyoncé tweet has five retweets and zero favs.
