Los Angeles DJ and producer DJ Crazy Toones passed away today. Toones, a longtime collaborator of Ice Cube and his brother, WC, apparently suffered a heart attack Monday morning.
Toones' production credits include work on early '90s albums from WC and the Maad Circle, including major singles like "The One," as well as work with Xzibit, Kokane, MC Ren, and others. Toones was a renowned turntablist, serving as Ice Cube's tour DJ and compiling mixtapes full of '90s rap gems from both East and West Coast acts.
Ice Cube—along with others including DJ Premier, The Alchemist, and Ice T—paid tribute to his friend via social media today. "I just lost my homie, brother, DJ, confidant and [loved] one," Cube wrote, "Crazy Toones passed away today and I'm fucked up about it."
