Mariah Carey's New Year's Eve debacle has been well-documented so far, as have her Instagram clapback, and her management's claim that Dick Clark Productions "set her up to fail." Today though, the singer spoke with Entertainment Weekly for her first official interview since the viral mishap.
In the interview, Carey took a diplomatic approach, but notes that she was "mortified" by the botched performance. "All I can say is Dick Clark was an incredible person and I was lucky enough to work with him when I first started in the music business," said Mariah. "I’m of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time."
Mariah also thanked fans for their support in the aftermath of the incident and told the interviewer she'd be "less trusting of using anyone outside [her] team" in the future. She also took the opportunity to plug her upcoming E! reality series Mariah's World and her 35-stop All the Hits Tour with Lionel Richie.
