John Legend Thinks Trump Used Kanye As “A Publicity Stunt”
The G.O.O.D. Music artist said he is “disappointed” with West’s rhetoric concerning the president-elect.
Kanye West met with President-elect Donald Trump in New York City yesterday where, according to West, the two discussed "multicultural issues." Trump later described Kanye as "a great friend" and signed his Person of the Year issue of TIME Magazine.
John Legend, who is signed to West's G.O.O.D. Music label, has joined the rising public backlash and voiced his opposition against the meeting in a new interview with the French program Clique TV. He pushed back against Kanye's stance that it was important to "have a direct line of communication with our future president."
This is what he had to say: "I don’t think it’s impossible to talk to [Trump] about issues, but I won’t be used as a publicity stunt. And I think Kanye was a publicity stunt. I’m pretty disappointed with Kanye that he says he would have voted for Trump. I think Trump has been corrosive, his message has been corrosive to the country and I think the things he’s promised to do have been very concerning for a lot of people. And for Kanye to support that message is very disappointing.... Whatever was in his mind, I disagree with him."
