London trio Belly Squad is perfectly on-time. The crew's instinctive blend of afropop, hip-hop, and other diasporic genres feels perfectly tailored for the moment we live in, where a Nigerian star fueled one of the year's biggest hits and where dancehall is back in the so-called mainstream. Their much-buzzed "Banana," a warm, midtempo jam stuffed with cheeky innuendo, is still racking up plays, more than a year and a half after its release. Today, Belly Squad premiere an official remix for the track, featuring some of London's finest — Abra Cadabra, Young T & Bugsey, Timbo, and the late Showkey.
"We had the beat to the remix for a while and wanted to make sure the features topped the original. The visual had to do the same and we're gassed at how its all come out. It's us doing what we like — thats what we're here to do," the trio explained.
