On November 19, a street corner in Queens, at the intersection of 192nd St and Linden Boulevard, was officially renamed Malik "Phife Dawg Taylor Way. During the unveiling ceremony, Phife's widow, Desha Head Taylor, detailed additional plans to keep the legacy of the late rapper alive.
Taylor announced that Phife Dawg had completed work on his second solo album, the follow-up to 2000's Ventilaton: Da LP, before his passing. "His solo album will be out probably sometime during the first quarter of 2017," Taylor told the press, according to Okayplayer. "We’re working on it now. He completed his entire solo album before he transitioned, so we’re excited about releasing that.” The album is tentatively titled Give Thanks and was teased earlier this year with the J Dilla-produced single, "Nutshell."
Taylor also spoke about Phife's finals months working on A Tribe Called Quest's We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service album. “There were times where he was working on the album where he would send me video footage of him rhyming over some of the beats that you would hear on the album,” she said. “He would make a certain face when hearing the beat, he would make this frown like ‘I’m feeling this,’ and you would hear his verses in the back. He was really excited about this project.”
