Yesterday, a playground in the Brooklyn park named after late Beastie Boys member Adam Yauch was vandalized with swastikas and pro-Trump graffiti. Community members and leaders were horrified by the anti-Semitic messages found in the park meant to memorialize Yauch, who advocated for peace and justice throughout his lifetime. "Adam Yauch is weeping for our country," NYC council member Brad Lander writes. "Mom was Jewish. Practiced Buddhism. Spoke out against Islamophobia. Apologized for homophobic lyrics."
Shortly afterwards, New York State Senator Daniel Squadron called for a rally within the park to "stand against hate messages" that will take place on November 20 at 11:30 a.m. Squadron will also be joined by Congresswoman Nydia Velásquez, city council members, elected officials, and other community and faith leaders.
