Dominican Singer Jarina De Marco’s “Tigre” Video Is As Colorful As Her Sound
The song addresses “that lip-licking, habitual line-stepping, cat-calling pendejo none of us have time for.”
Dominican singer Jarina De Marco makes music that puts traditional Latin rhythms into a club-y electronic context. In the new video for her feminist anthem "Tigre," which is premiering on The FADER today, she combines eye-popping visuals of juicy fruits, giant plants, perspex boots, and an adorable striped cat. Against that colorful background, she makes it clear she won't tolerate cat-calling behavior from out-of-line men.
"Tigre is Dominican slang for 'Fuckboi,'" De Marco told The FADER over email. "He's that macho, womanizing, thinks he's sooo slick, guy that you, your mama, and your girlfriends can spot a mile away. He's that dude hollering at you when all you wanna do is get some damn platanitos at the corner bodega. He's that lip-licking, habitual line-stepping, cat-calling pendejo none of us have time for. In 'Tigre,' I'm recognizing him, calling him out and eye-rolling him into oblivion."
