On last night's much anticipated episode of Saturday Night Live, legendary comedian Dave Chappelle hosted the show for the first time with A Tribe Called Quest as musical guests. In light of the results of the presidential election on Tuesday, Chappelle, ATCQ, and the cast members of SNL gave their viewers much needed comedic relief, insight, and a little bit of hope.
During his opening monologue, Dave Chappelle took a jab at new president-elect Donald Trump, deploring America for electing "an Internet troll as president." He then admitted that the outcome didn't surprise him. “I didn't know Donald Trump was going to win the election. I did suspect it. It seemed like Hillary was doing well in the polls, and yet, I know the whites,” joked Chappelle. "For us [black people], we've been here before." Throughout the uncensored stand-up piece, Chappelle referenced the Black Lives Matter movement, Harambe, and Colin Kaepernick before finally ending on a positive note.
"I'm wishing Donald Trump luck," said Chappelle. "I'm going to give him a chance. And we, the historically disenfranchised, demand that he give us one too." Watch above.
Before Chappelle's monologue, Kate McKinnon covered Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" as Hillary Clinton, offering condolences for the singer's death and the Democratic candidate's loss earlier this week. Dave Chappelle also revived his beloved Chappelle's Show characters in a Walking Dead spoof and invited Chris Rock to join him for an election night sketch. Watch below.
