Nicki Minaj Clarifies Comments About Kanye West And “Gold Digger”
Minaj on Twitter: “He tells the truth about stuff ppl don’t wanna hear!”
In her upcoming cover story for Marie Claire, which comes out on October 18, Nicki Minaj discussed double standards for black women in media and competing with her male counterparts in the rap game. Marie Claire released clips from the story last week, and, over the weekend, the Daily Mail reported that the rapper "slammed" Kanye West and Kim Kardashian in the interview.
“I’m so tired of black women feeling that when our men get rich, they’re going to leave them for a woman of a different race.” Minaj reportedly said in the cover story interview, referring to Kanye West’s 2005 single “Gold Digger.” “It wasn’t funny when Kanye said, ‘When he get on, he’ll leave your ass for a white girl’—and Kanye happens to be with a white girl now.”
On Twitter, Nicki clarified that the comments weren't meant as a slight towards Kanye West. ""Slams" a man/genius who gave me one of the biggest looks of my career? I said he wasn't kidding, he was speaking the TRUTH about d industry," she wrote, referencing her verse on West's "Monster." See Nicki Minaj's Twitter responses below.
