For their Live From Atlanta lecture series in August, RBMA sat down with the great Sleepy Brown to look back on some moments from his illustrious career.
As one third of Organized Noize, Brown produced and lent vocals to each of Outkast and Goodie Mob's seminal early catalog releases, as well as classics like TLC's "Waterfalls" and En Vogue's "Don't Let Go (Love)." As a solo artist and vocalist, Brown had a string of criminally underrated singles in the early 2000s, the most high-profile of which landed on 2006's Mr. Brown.
Brown's RBMA interview covers a lot of ground—growing up around music, early encounters with Outkast circa "Player's Ball"—but the conversations also zooms in on a lesser-known chapter of the artist's back catalog. 1998's The Vinyl Room, a soul-steeped full-length from Brown's band, Sleepy's Theme, was promptly passed on by his label, released on a limited scale, and mostly um, slept on.
The lecture is a must-watch for Dungeon Family completists, but also just a good conversation with a legend who's seen the music industry from a lot of different angles. Watch above.
