Yung Lean’s Sad Boys Accuse Urban Outfitters Of Ripping Off Their Merch Designs

“Yoshi city belongs to us and our true fans · fuck u Urban Outfitters.”

October 11, 2016

Yung Lean's Sad Boys collective has accused Urban Outfitters of stealing their designs for a recently released bomber jacket, Thump points out. "The discussion of big corporations feeding off small independent creators and their work is too vast and depressing to conduct here," the group wrote in a Facebook post. "So let´s settle with this - yoshi city belongs to us and our true fans · fuck u Urban Outfitters."

The Urban Renewal Vintage Surplus Yoshi City Nights Black Coach Jacket features the words "Yoshi City Nights 2002" on the back and a frowning face on the front pocket. "Yoshi City" is also the name of a track from Yung Lean's 2014 debut album Unkown Memory and his 2013 mixtape was entitled Unknown Death 2002. The frowning face has been featured on multiple items from the Sad Boys's merch collections in the past and is currently featured on a hat that is available for purchase on their website.

In a statement to Thump, Sad Boys wrote, "We don't want to blame the fans buying the bootlegged gear, but rather inform them on where to buy the official gear in order to get the true experience on what we try to express in terms of music, art and clothing (and also directly support the artist that they like)."
