The Red Bull Music Academy Montreal's lecture series has followed up their Kaytranada episode with Polaris Prize winning Inuk artist Tanya Tagaq. Hosted by The FADER's Canada editor Anupa Mistry, the session runs for just over an hour.
There's a lot of insight for newcomers—Tagaq defines throat singing as "a friendly competition, it's not meant to be this big spiritual thing, [it's] a vocal competition, a mental competition to see who has the most lung capacity and the quickest mind." She also discusses the untold history of the human rights abuses in Canada's residential schools, and working with A Tribe Called Red, which she calls a "really respectful" process.
