Take A Quick Tour Of Prince’s Paisley Park Estate And Museum
Step inside The Purple One’s compound and fan out with Al Roker.
A segment from The Today Show this morning offered a first, exclusive look inside Prince's Paisley Park home and studio complex, which has recently undergone the transformation into a full-time public museum.
Yesterday, news broke that the museum's opening would be delayed from its original October 6 date, due to a vote by Minneapolis' City Council to delay the zoning request that would allow them to operate. Soon after, The New York Times reported that, in the meantime, the museum will be granted temporary permits to open for several upcoming dates.
In the clip above, host Al Roker is treated to an extensive tour of the museum's many highlights. Among them: the Purple Rain Room (where fans can admire artifacts from the set while the movie is projected on loop), the intimate club that supplanted the hoop court of Chappelle's Show mythology, and pieces from his carefully catalogued wardrobe. The museum's chief archivist, Angie Marchese, notes that the collection includes over 6000 articles, each custom-made and labeled with Prince's name.
Toward the end, the clip offers a poignant conversation between Roker and Prince's sisters, Sharon and Norrine Nelson, who offer some words of approval. "The spirit of Prince is here," says Norrine, "He thought all this through. He had a vision and he finished it."
