Some songs just sound like California. Hinged on a bright acoustic guitar melody and some swaying la las, "Easy To Forget" is one of them. It's a highlight off career stoner Mike Collins's excellent first full-length under his new Drugdealer alias. The lyrics, which include the line you get to see me play the fool, and I do, are sung by Ariel Pink.
“I came up with this chord progression right after I moved to Los Angeles three years ago," Collins wrote in an email to FADER. "It was one the first things that felt seriously indebted to simply being on the West Coast." The video, debuting above, feels quintessentially L.A.-like, too. It follows a magnetic actress named Christiana Von Neissen as she sucks down cigarettes in a van filled with junk, the sleeves of her paisley shirt billowing in the breeze.
"In L.A., you often meet people who are actors on the street: Uber drivers, waiters, valet, musicians, etc," Collins continued. "We met Christiana this way; she was working at a bar. Immediately, she sort of embodies a spirit of L.A. that I've come to love." The End Of Comedy, which also includes the heartbreakingly ’70s-sounding "Suddenly," is out right now on Weird World.
