Everything You Need To Know From Apple’s iPhone 7 And 7 Plus Keynote

On Wednesday, Apple held their September 2016 Keynote at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook announced a number of big changes for existing Apple products, and revealed the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models. Read some highlights of the event below.

-The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus ship on September 16 in 28 countries. Pre-orders begin September 9; the 7’s price starts at $649, with the 7 Plus at $769.

-A new design and high-gloss finish called "Jet Black" will be introduced. Gold, silver, and rose gold will return as color options.

-Storage will come in 32 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB. 128GB Jet Black phones will not be available.

-iOS 10 is out September 13.

-Both models come with a new water and dust resistant enclosure.

-The speaker jack will indeed be removed, and replaced with the Lightning port, which you already use to charge your iPhone 6. A lightning to mini-phono adapter will be included with each phone, so you can still use all your aux cord-friendly devices. (Announcing the change, Apple worldwide marketing VP Phil Schiller said it "came down to one word: courage.")

-A brand new product was announced: Wireless headphones called Apple AirPods, which last for five hours on a single charge (the charging case it comes with provides a total use time of 24 hours). They do not require Bluetooth-style pairing with the iPhone. The AirPods ship in late October and cost $159.

-The longest battery life ever is here. The iPhone 7 lasts 2 hours more than iPhone 6, and the iPhone 7 Plus lasts 1 hour more than iPhone 6s.

-The new camera features optical image stabilization, a wider aperture for more light, and a 12 megapixel sensor (the front facing camera is now 7 megapixels and also features auto image stabilization.

-iPhone 7 Plus has two back-facing cameras, a standard issue wide-angle lens and a new telephoto lens (zooms are 4x better image quality). This allows for photos with varying depth of field.

-Retina HD display is 25% brighter, and with cinema standard colors, color management, and increased usage of the 3D Touch layer for apps like Instagram, which will launch a new version of the photo-sharing program later this year.

-Speakers in both models will be stereo, one at the bottom and one at the top. They will be twice as louder and will feature an increased dynamic range.

-The new phones come with the A10 Fusion 64-bit, a four core processor that runs 40% faster than the iPhone 6's processor. Two of the cores are high-efficiency which ensures the intensive apps and functions use less energy.

-Thanks to the new processor, the new iPhones will be capable of "console level gaming" and an Adobe suite with 90% of the features of the desktop version.
