Last week, New York artist and Ratking producer Sporting Life released his new solo project, Slam Dunk Vol. 1. It's the first of a three-volume EP series inspired by Takehiko Inoue’s Japanese manga series Slam Dunk, and will be accompanied by video and sportswear-related merch drops unique to each EP (including the sweatband worn in the video above).
Premiering today on The FADER, “Hydrate The Hustle” is the first of these visual components. Opening with frantic sped up and slowed down dribbles, and hoop shoe-to-pavement skrrts, the Georgia-directed video takes you on Sporting Life’s basketball-led journey through an almost-at-dawn N.Y.C. Chinatown, with the song and visual effect combination making you feel like he could blast off into another dimension at any moment.
“It’s about that point in a game where your hydration and training starts to determine who will have the edge and win at the end of the match," Sport told The FADER over email. "Who will stay hydrated and who will cramp up."
