50 Cent is developing a TV series based on the infamous Detroit crime ring Black Mafia Family, HotNewHipHop has reported.
The rapper, who acts in and produces Power on Starz and has signed a multi-series deal with the network, posted a letter purportedly from Big Meech, one of the incarcerated leaders of the BMF. "I must say Fiff and Randall [Emmett, co-founder of film production company Cheetah Vision with 50 Cent] given the success of your past creative collaborations... I feel that the two of you are the perfect team to tell 'my story.'"
Yesterday on Instagram, 50 claimed that the series already has "a green light." Last week, he posted a picture saying the program would air on Starz, but no other details, such as release date or format, have been revealed. However, Meech's son, Lil Meech, posted the above Instagram, expressing his excitement.
Big Meech and his brother Southwest T began dealing cocaine in the late '80s, and over the next 10 years, built a quarter billion dollar empire known as the BMF. Their connection to the world of hip-hop run deeper than lyrical references: Meech was instrumental in promoting Young Jeezy, and founded a rap label called BMF Entertainment. In 2008, Both Meech and Southwest T received 30 year sentences in jail.
