Listen To Hoops’s Debut Self-Titled EP In Full
The Bloomington band made some sleepy rock for your late-summer ennui.
Hoops is a band from Indiana. Their self-titled EP comes out this week on Fat Possum, but you can stream it here today. It's got some jams on it, most of which are constructed out of pogoing drum patterns and liquid-sounding guitars. The production is key. It's jangly and waterlogged but also cacophonous, like a cassette-quality Wall of Sound or something that cult Brooklyn label Captured Tracks would have released in the late-aughts. It makes a lot of sense that they're hitting the road with Whitney, another recent rock band that works hard to make songs with a specific, borderline tangible mood.
"We recorded most of the EP at Drew’s house this spring," the band told The FADER in an email. "It took longer than we anticipated and we started to get a little stir-crazy towards the end of the recording and mixing process. We had been playing some of these songs for something like two years, so we were working to find new things about them to accentuate without losing track of their original feelings."
