Skepta Has Been Nominated For The Mercury Prize
Kano, Laura Mvula, and Anohni are also up for the prestigious U.K. music award.
Each year the Mercury Prize assembles a jury of music critics and industry figures to vote for the best British album of the year. Today, August 4, the shortlist was announced at a ceremony in London.
The nominees include former FADER cover star Skepta plus Anohni, Kano, The 1975, Laura Mvula, Radiohead, and Bat For Lashes. The shortlist is completed by albums from Jamie Woon, Michael Kiwanuka, Savages, The Comet Is Coming, and David Bowie's final album Blackstar.
The shortlist will be trimmed down to six albums between now and September 15, when the winner is decided by the Mercury Prize panel. The public will decide on one of these albums with an online vote now open. The panel, which this year includes former nominees Jessie Ware and Kate Tempest as well as BBC Radio 1 DJs Clara Amfo and Annie Mac, will decide on the remaining five.
The six finalists and the overall winner will be announced as part of the 2016 Awards Show, which will take place on September 15 at the Eventim Apollo, London.
