It would have been inspiring to see Un Blonde's Good Will Come To You, an album of raw, stripped-down spirituals, make its way from the Polaris Prize long list to the final five albums. But part of what makes songs like "Brand New" so powerful is the sense that its passion, fear, pain, and understanding are not conditional with such trivial matters. Jean-Sebastian Audet's layered vocal harmonies are transcendent, and in the "Brand New" video premiering above, they seem to guide him from an apartment and into the streets of Montreal, where he finds his own rhythm in the music, as he has always done. "I have always been impatiently waiting," he told The FADER over email, clear-eyed and eager for liberation. "No more indecisiveness; no more misunderstandings; no more fronting. I want to be brand new."
