Watch GAIKA’s Experimental New Short Film, Security
Security shows the dark side of London at night.
Brixton-based alternative artist GAIKA has shared a 7 minute visual accompaniment to his Security mixtape, which dropped in April 2016. Similar to the mixtape, GAIKA’s dystopian themes are overtly stated in the surreal short film, via white text in block capitals bearing phrases such as heroes die violently and please commit crime. The film will feature in Club 88, a GAIKA live show planned as part of artist Ron Arad’s 360 degree installation Curtain Call at London’s Roundhouse on August 11.
Set against the eerie backdrop of London at night, the short film has a disorientating, nonlinear narrative, and features experimental close-up shots that evoke a sense of dread. In an interview with Dazed, GAIKA said that Security is “very much about how we all live under this blanket of fear, this indiscriminate fear which causes us to be controlled.” Watch the film above.
