Delegates held the roll-call vote at the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia today, officially nominating Hillary Clinton as the presidential candidates for the Democratic party, CNN reports. Clinton is the first woman to ever be nominated as a presidential candidate for a major party.
Delegates from South Dakota officially put Clinton over the needed minimum of 2,382 delegates needed to win the nomination. The roll-call vote will continue this evening through the complete roster of states and territories.
The nomination comes after a day of disruption from pro-Bernie Sanders delegates and protesters at the Democratic National Convention. Speakers such as Sarah Silverman, Michelle Obama, and Sanders himself addressed those gathered on the floor of the convention yesterday in attempts to ease tensions.
Bill Clinton is set to headline the speakers at the convention tonight, and Hillary Clinton is expected to accept the nomination on Thursday night.
