XXL's 2016 Freshman class have already given us jubilant cyphers, collaborations, and great solo freestyles. Today, XXL shared a Freshmen roundtable with Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty, Kodak Black, 21 Savage, and Denzel Curry discussing their individual styles, and how they've reacted to their fans and the fame.
"I feel like one reason why we all got picked [as XXL 2016 Freshmen] 'cause we all in our own lanes," Yachty said. "And everybody wanna be in niggas's lanes," Lil Uzi added, before going on to discuss his own sound. "I describe myself as a feel-good rapper. You just hear my sound and be smiling every time. It don't matter what I'm saying, I just make that motherfucker sound good." Yachty also said he makes "positivity music, the opposite of 21 [Savage]," who agreed.
Most of the freshmen had nothing but great things to say about their fans, except for Denzel Curry, who got very real. "People that support you, they'll support you regardless, even if you go to jail. Fans, they're quick to turn on you. I've seen that shit happen to a lot of niggas." Lil Uzi chimed in to air out insincere music industry suits: "[With] the industry, you don't really know who rock with you, everybody act like they rock with you 'cause you hot."
21 Savage ended the video by emphasizing his humanity. "Motherfuckers gotta realize that we still be humans at the end of the day. Motherfuckers act like niggas [are] robots, like niggas don't got hearts, and brains, and shit. That's the only thing that I don't like." Watch the entire session above.
