During last evening's Tony Awards, black actors swept all the major acting categories. Winners included: Cynthia Erivo (Lead Actress), Daveed Diggs (Featured Actor), Leslie Odom Jr. (Lead Actor), Renée Elise Goldsberry (Featured Actress). (It's worth noting that in the past nine years, The Oscars have only awarded three acting awards to black performers.) Hamilton and The Color Purple dominated the evening, with the hip-hop musical taking home the Best Musical honor along with 10 other awards. The musical's creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda took his acceptance speech time to honor the victims of the weekend's mass shooting in Orlando.
