A couple of months back, Tyler The Creator rapped over "Freestyle 4" from Kanye West's latest album, The Life Of Pablo. And now GHE20G0TH1K artist LSDXOXO has flipped it within a Baltimore club music context that makes for an essential listen.
"Remixing 'Freestyle 4' made sense to me because initially when I heard it, the track reminded me of a Bernard Herrmann composition," LSDXOXO explained to The FADER over email. "Some of my favorite Baltimore club music from a while back sampled horror movie scores, and I wanted to invoke that same spirit and sound with this edit. The vibe of Kanye's original track is super agro-hetero, and I felt compelled to make it more relatable."
GHE20G0TH1K will release LSDXOXO's Fuck Marry Kill mixtape on June 1. That's the artwork below. It's the New York collective's first full-length release, and they'll be celebrating LSDXOXO's birthday with a special event this Friday May 27 featuring FADER Mix fave Manara, Nguzunguzu's Asmara, and NON Records's Angel-Ho and Nkisi. Check the flyer below, and see you at the front.
