Houston's KHOU reports that police staged a protest outside Beyoncé's concert in Houston yesterday. Tony Ragsdale, president of the Coalition for Police and Sheriffs in Pasadena, Texas, suggested that "some of her performances we believe to be anti-police." "Police lives matter," he added.
This is not the first time law enforcement has voiced an objection to Beyoncé's music. A Miami police union issued a public statement in February announcing its intention to boycott one of the star's performances.
"The police boycotting Beyoncé is ridiculous," the singer's father, Mathew Knowles, declared earlier this year. Beyoncé later addressed the protests directly in a rare interview with Elle, noting "I have so much admiration and respect for officers and the families of officers who sacrifice themselves to keep us safe. But let’s be clear: I am against police brutality and injustice. Those are two separate things."
