According to Drake himself, the album formerly known as Views From The 6 and now entitled VIEWS sold a staggering 600,000+ copies within 24 hours of yesterday's release on Apple Music and iTunes.
The rapper announced the news at a VIEWS launch party he held in Toronto last night and just after he surprised Raptors fans with an impromptu performance at the Air Canada Centre.
One lucky attendee caught the rapper's reaction on video:
"I got a text message that we sold like 630,000 some records in one night," says Drake. "That's the first time I've ever done that shit, so thank you very much."
There's no word yet on how many of those sales were made via streaming, but the numbers (if they're true) are impressive nonetheless. As Complex points out, Drake stands to benefit from a new rule established by the RIAA that now includes streams in an album's overall sales numbers, even if those streams came prior to the album's release. Factor in the hundreds of millions of streams for "Hotline Bling," "Pop Style," and "One Dance," and it's no wonder Drizzy is having the best week ever.
