After nearly a decade of letter correspondence, Michigan-based vocalist Rose Suau and Johan Angergård, Swedish electro-pop label Labrador Records founder, came together in 2015 as Djustin. What began as admiration for one another’s musical projects, such as Angergård's Club 8 and Suau's Invisible Twins, became a sensual collaboration of jingling synth-pop and affective melodies. Their latest single "Tryst" is only a technicolored taste of their upcoming debut EP.
The bright and repetitive beat ushers you into a dark warehouse party illuminated only by multicolored lights, where it can be anywhere between midnight or 4 a.m. Lyrics like Deep in the night we come alive are sung with the same potency as Quiet my fears/ I'm safe inside your arms, almost as if the comfort of intimacy is as fleeting as the shadows.
"In matters of romance (or chance meetings) things burn up and out quickly, and can end ruthlessly," Suau explained over email. "Love is more like an unpleasant side-effect and somewhat disposable."
