Tim Sweeney And Phillip Lauer Made A Song About A Depressed Robot
“Garden of Tears” features on their debut EP as T & P on Sweeney’s label Beats In Space.
Beats In Space boss Tim Sweeney's natural habitat is behind the decks on his radio show, but this month he steps into producer mode as one half of new project T & P with German house head Phillip Lauer. "Garden of Tears," streaming below, is taken from their debut EP Shoot The Freak, and it's an addicting slice of cold electro-pop with humanoid synth "vocals." "When playing together at Robert Johnson [nightclub] in Frankfurt, Tim and I spent some time at Pyramid 2 Studio," Lauer told The FADER over email. "From our collaboration sprung what sounded like an amateur Beach Boys track without the beaches, 'Garden Of Tears.' I don't remember exactly where the song title came from… Perhaps from Tim crying once again? Or the German word for 'zoo': tiergarten.”
"This is a song about a depressed robot that just had his heart broken (again), and is singing 10CC's 'I'm Not In Love' at the German tiergarten," confirms Sweeney.
