MikeQ Remixed “Formation” And It’s Flames
The New York producer drops a club-ready edit of Beyoncé’s latest single ahead of GHE20G0TH1K with MA DJ, Venus X, and Total Freedom on February 19.
Beyoncé's "Formation" has been in heavy rotation since it first dropped a couple of weeks ago. And, though I find myself two-stepping to it on the train and bopping my head at my desk, I'm waiting to finally hear it out at a party. One true test of a song's power is, after all, on a sweaty dancefloor with friends and strangers who might become friends if the moment—and the music—encourages it.
That's long been the vibe of GHE20G0TH1K, one of New York City's best parties and consistent culture incubators. Ahead of its February 19 edition, whose line-up features MA DJ, Venus X, Total Freedom, and more, New York producer and DJ MikeQ is premiering a mental refit of "Formation." The stuttering, amped-up remix is exactly the kind of track that'll make you drunkenly and platonically put your phone number in a fellow clubgoer's phone.
"I made this remix not only because it was a hot song, but it stood for something and while half the world seems to hate Beyoncé...I completely get the message," MikeQ told The FADER over email. "The track, once it drops repeating you dat BITCH, is like re-empowering in its own ballroom way."
