Okay, Valentine's Day is over. Sweep up the rose petals and put the cards straight in the trash, because it's time for some real talk from DJ Mustard's new British signee Ella Mai. 21-year-old Ella—who releases her debut EP on Mustard's imprint 10 Summers today—first revealed her searing, Ty Dolla $ign-featuring bounce-back anthem "She Don't" a few weeks ago on OVO Sound's Beats 1 show. Now, it's got a video filled with all the cold shoulder and icy glares you might expect from lyrics like wish you good luck being lonely.
As Ella Mai put it over email to The FADER, "She Don't" is a song for "not only girls, but guys also. I feel like everyone has been in a bitter situation, regardless whether it's cheating or just not being over someone who is over you—you compare yourself to the next. What's important to me about the song is the fact that it's not an 'I'm hurt' breakup song, it's an 'Okay, you do you, I'll definitely move on and do me.'"
