N.Y.C.'s Master & Dynamic audio store recently launched an In-Residence program, and Mas Ysa wrote three new songs for the latest installation of the series, which follows last year's anthem-stuffed Seraph LP. Premiering right here, right now, is "Gates," a delicate song that reminds me of ambling through the woods on a clear night while thinking about the future.
"Gates is one of those songs that is named after a word that is in it," Mas Ysa told the FADER in an email. "Sometimes 160 bpm vamps start as woe-is-me ballads over at the Mas Ysa camp fire. In this case, I couldn't find a place for this track to live and I didn't feel like bringing it to the show Shark Tank and having it developed into something greater. So it's lucky I get to have a few people take it on outside of a record. I basically freestyled it and it came out just the perfect size to be true. I didn't want to move it around too much. Some songs like some friends you can't take anywhere. But you love hanging out at their house. I hope you enjoy it."
