Ohio’s Own 16 Yr Old Premieres “Ever Told,” Featuring Dutchboy And Divine
“Like everything else we do, this one came out of the bedroom.”
Today, 16 yr old—aka 18-year-old producer and SoundCloud phenom Jerry Cruz—dropped a tricked out new track called "Ever Told," which features his homies Divine and Dutchboy, who hail from Louisiana and New Jersey respectively. (It's so cool to learn about collaborations that span so far geographically. But that's how the kids are doing it these days, and they're doing it well.)
Cruz is onto some real shit, which you can tell just by peeping his Twitter, which includes mutterings like "i live in the middle of nowhere" and shouts like "I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BE DOING ANY OF THE SHIT THAT IM DOING RIGHT NOW SO PLEASE, KEEP TREADING ON AND BELIEVING IN YOURSELF." Like "Ever Told," that is the kind of ardor and disquietude that can only come from a laptop in an 18-year-old's lone sanctuary: his bedroom. As Cruz explained to The FADER over email, "Like everything else we do, this one came out of the bedroom. There isn't shit to do in Northeast Ohio, so I just do shit."
Cruz might have been stuck in Ohio when he made this, but it's clear he was drawing influence from far and wide. "I was running through [Playboi] Carti and [PARTYNEXTDOOR] and thought it was time to re-up on that tone," he confirmed. "Once I finished with it, I sent it to my boy Divine from Louisiana and he made shit happen." The vocals are "courtesy of New Jersey's Dutchboy," whose Future-like voice drawls out lines like Damn I came out of the gutter and Did this all from fucking passion. You can feel the passion in this bedroom trap. Keep treading and believing in yourself, guys. Stream "Ever Told" below.
