FADER Mix: Endgame

I first saw Endgame DJ through a dry-eyed, early hours haze in an abandoned office block in Bermondsey, south London. I was drinking a tinnie I'd bought on the way, and the fog was caused by all the people smoking inside; the "smoking area" outside was being used for snogging. Mykki Blanco was there, spitting acapella bars to a bubbling crowd, and Endgame was one of a rotating cast of young London producers including Lexxi and Kamixlo who took it in turns to crouch in front of a laptop and glide bumpily but thrillingly through dancehall and hip-hop, via heavy metal and hi-tech dance.

This was Endless, an occasional DIY party run by Lexxi in south London (catch the next one on November 12 at Peckham's Rye Wax), and one of the focal points for a wave of artists making London's underground raw, raunchy, and very real. Endgame, with the plush production curves of his self-titled EP, excellent way with a Justin Bieber vocal, and super on-point Precious Metals show on NTS Radio, is one of the loose crew's stand-out names. Together with Lexxi, Kamixlo, and vocalists Blaze Kidd and Uli K, he forms Bala Club, a collective that launches its first club night in the capital this Friday.

It's an exciting time for the crew, and for Endgame in particular: before he goes B2B with Lexxi at experimental Polish festival Unsound this week, and releases his second EP Savage on vinyl in November, take a peek into his skewed, playful world via the exclusive mix below.

Where are you right now? Please describe your surroundings.
In the studio. It's cold and dark. Smells of petrol.

What did you open and close this mix with and why?
The first track is some virus edit I found on my hard drive. I’m really obssesed with it, but can’t remember who made it. The last track is a new one I produced featuring Uli-k and Blaze Kidd, forthcoming on their collab EP (on Bala Club). The instrumental will be released on my second EP out early next month.

What have you learnt from throwing/DJing at parties in DIY spaces around London?
Keep the lights off.

What does your dream club look like?
Berghain.

What are your earliest musical memories?
My cousin leant me Korn's Life is Peachy when I was 10, I was never the same.

And finally, what's the last book you read that had a big impact on you?
The Glass Bees, Ernst Jünger.
