I've conquered the beast/ Now I'm much greater/ I've learned from my failures, sings Jamaican artist Keznamdi on his latest reggae pop number, "Champion." Co-written by Justin Bieber's writing partner Poo Bear, it's a rousing ode to shooting for the stars. Plus there's a lil keyboard breakdown that reminds me of Ryuichi Sakamoto's "Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence."
"Three words really inspired me to write this record—dedication, discipline, and drive," Keznamdi told The FADER. "I'm looking forward to sharing this track with the world, as I always aim to both inspire and entertain people through my music and I hope this song conveys that perfectly. I have great respect for Poo Bear’s creativity as a songwriter so when I heard he was a part of this project, it was an honor and a pleasure to collaborate. The energy and musical chemistry was on a high level and I think we came up with one of my best songs to date." Grab it on iTunes at midnight tonight (pre-order here).
