There's been a lot of wild and misguided speculation as to who would replace Alexander Wang as Balenciaga's Artistic Director, and we're so, so thrilled it was all incorrect. Vetements, the taste-making line that's revived the humble sweatshirt, made an art form out of extra-long sleeves, and counts Rihanna and Kanye amongst its fans, is taking a prestigious step up in the fashion world.
Last night, Vetements boss Demna Gvasalia was announced as the artistic director at Balenciaga, and we're so fucking stoked. Vetements is comprised of a collaborative cabal, seven members strong. Gvasalia is the only publicly identified member, though, and apparently the only one transporting his talents to Balenciaga. Fans of the brand need not despair, though: Gvasalia tells The New York Times, "“I’ve already started working on next season for Vetements,” he said. “This is a label and a project that I am committed to for a lifetime.'”
