LUKA And Laura Darlington’s Dreamy Song “SHIMMER” Is A Slice Of L.A.
A pop song for the last days of summer.
LUKA may be based in Hamburg during the summer, but he's dreaming of the winters he spends in L.A. For his gentle new single "SHIMMER," the Tumblr-famous producer linked up with L.A. vocalist Laura Darlington (who's also appeared on tracks with Daedelus and Flying Lotus). The result is a nostalgia-crackled whisper of a pop song that feels like the cozy memory of west coast sun.
"'SHIMMER' is very L.A. influenced," LUKA explained to The FADER over email. "I tried to catch the vibe that makes the city so special. As in all my songs there’s no story, it’s just a feeling, a certain vibe. I had this instrumental finished quite some time ago and I’ve always loved Laura’s voice, especially on the tunes she did with Flying Lotus. I got in contact with her and we did this track [by] sending back and forth and finished it the end of last year." Listen to "SHIMMER" ahead of its release tomorrow (September 11) on Friends of Friends, and scroll down to find out where you can catch LUKA live in Europe this fall.
