Indulge In Pure, Silly Nostalgia With The New Video From Flamingods And My Panda Shall Fly

“This could quite easily be A-Level Media Studies coursework.”

Ever restless and prolific, London-Bahraini band Flamingods will this week release their third album in three years: a remixed version of their 2013 debut Sun, titled Moon (what else?). One of the LP's stand-outs comes from fellow Londoner My Panda Shall Fly, who takes the band's psychedelic, freaky folk and spins it out into a lush electronic kaleidoscope.

Flamingods' visual collaborator Niall Trask got the band's frontman Kamal Rasool together with Suren Seneviratne (aka My Panda Shall Fly) to create a fittingly zany yet low-key visual for his remix of "Kinich Ahau," which you can watch exclusively above. "With zero budget, it's a little bit of schizophrenic approach," Trask told The FADER over email. "It’s a bit of a cliché, but I’d been watching a lot of old videos by Michel Gondry and Spike Jonze. Old DIY skate videos and pop promos for the likes of Bjork, Fat Lip and Foo Fighters. Nostalgia is a dangerous thing, but it brought back a lot of memories of MTV in the mid '90s, which inspired me. Rotoscoping, the incorporation of props, costume design, and physical objects, scruffy camera work and a comedy theme with the musicians quite often acting. Looking at all the projects I have planned at the moment, I felt like this was going to be the last silly lo-fi thing that I’d make, so I tried to have as much fun with this one, exorcising all my juvenile analog demons. This could quite easily be A-Level Media Studies coursework from 1998.”

Moon will be released on August 28; you can get it here.
